Rotis with dal and some vegetable is our dinner on atleast 2 or more days in a week. But sometimes we get bored with the same dal, and want to have something different. I added some mint to the dal, it gave it a nice flavor and was a little different with a squeeze of lemon juice. Give it a try if you like mint..
Need To Have
- Tuvar Dal - 1/2 cup
- Chana Dal - 1/2 cup
- Mint Leaves - 2 handful
- Onion - 1 medium size
- Tomato - 1 big
- Cinnamon - 1 small stick
- Cloves - 3
- Cumin Seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Roasted Cumin Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chilli Flakes - 2 teaspoons or to your spice level
- Fennel Seed Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Turmeric Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lemon Juice - from 1/2 lemon
Method
Pressure cook both the dals with the turmeric powder, chop the onion and tomato and mince the mint leaves. Heat oil, add the cinnamon, cloves, cumin seeds, when the cumin seeds sizzle , add the onion, saute till transparent, then add the tomatoes, once it becomes mushy add the mint leaves. Saute for a few mins, add the cooked dal, cumin powder and fennel powder, mix and simmer for a few more mins. Add the lemon juice before serving, or even better serve it with lemon wedges.
Sending this to My Cook Book for Julie's EP Series - Mint & Coriander.
Note
Can use any combination of dals. I left out both garlic and ginger, you can add both or any one of them.
